How to prepare
We recommend that examinees gain practical experience before taking this exam; see our Connecting to Sources tutorials in the Denodo Community, where you will start by learning how to create a JDBC data source and base views.
The Denodo Virtual DataPort Administration Guide also explains how to create data sources and base views. You can review all data source connections in more detail using the administration tool or in the Virtual DataPort Administration guide.
We recommend that you create a data source and a base view of every type to check the necessary configuration and understand what is required for each data source.
All these elements are covered in the topics “JDBC,” “LDAP,” and “JSON,” of the official course Denodo Platform Server Administrator.
Denodo Platform Configuration and Backup
This section includes all the topics related to the configuration of the Virtual DataPort. A Denodo Administrator should be able to understand the distribution of the views, the server configuration and best practices. Additionally, a Denodo Administrator should have a good understanding of the backup process.
How to prepare
This section is very important from a configuration point of view. The examinee should be familiar with all the options related to the configuration of the server. These are the main sections related to server administration:
- Server Connectivity
- Threads Pool
- Configuring the Cache
- Limiting the Number of Concurrent Requests
- Default Configuration of HTTP Proxy
- Configuring the Memory Usage and Swapping Policy
- Query Optimization
- Configuring Runtime Parameters for Stored Procedures
- Configuring the Default Internationalization
- Identifiers Charset
- Kerberos Authentication
- SAML Authentication
- Privileges: Global Settings
Additional topics related to configuration of the server are:
- Folder Distribution: How to structure the created elements in the Virtual DataPort Administration tool.
- VCS Integration: How to configure VCS integration in a Virtual DataPort server.
- Backup: How to backup the Denodo installation.
The examinee should be familiar with best practices related to administration. To learn more on the subject, review Denodo Admin and Development Best Practices.
You can find further detailed explanations under the following topics: “Installation. Folder distribution”, “Backup”, “VCS Integration”, “Administration. Server Configuration” and “Administration. Best Practices” which are included in the official Denodo courses: Denodo Platform Installation & Operation and VDP Server Administrator.
Best Practices Using the Denodo Platform’s Cache
Virtual DataPort incorporates a system called a “cache module,” which can store a local copy of the data retrieved from data sources in a JDBC database. The questions in this section relate to information about how to configure, load, and perform maintenance on the cache module.
How to prepare
The configuration of the cache database is done in the Server Administration menu, the examinee should understand:
- How to Enable the Cache Engine in the Server
- The Cache Maintenance Task
- Understanding the Different Cache Configurations (Full, Partial, Full Incremental….)
- Invalidate Cache
To understand the cache module, we recommend that you enable the cache and change the configuration, understanding the results in every case.
Information related to the cache database is included in the topics “Virtual DataPort. Cache” and “Virtual DataPort. Cache. Development” in the Advanced Data Virtualization Developer course.
Deploying Denodo Platform in Clusters
The Denodo Platform can be configured in a cluster configuration. The examinee ought to know how to configure the Denodo Platform in clusters, as well as certain best practices.
How to prepare
Here are some useful sections related to cluster configuration as well as best practices:
- Cluster Architectures
- Install the Denodo Tools: a set of tools that help building a cluster with several Virtual DataPort servers.
- How to Check If a Virtual DataPort Server Is Alive: learn how to use the Ping script.
- Using the Import/Export Scripts for Backup And/or Replication: replicate the metadata of a Virtual DataPort server, to a group of servers.
- Best Practices
- All the information related to clustering is included in the official training course Denodo Platform Installation & Operation, included within the topics “Deployments” and “System Administration: Cluster”.
Promotion Between Environments
A Denodo Administrator should know how to do a promotion between environments, for example production, staging/QA, development and more.
How to prepare
You need to be familiar with the import/export scripts that Denodo provides as well as working with VCS. You should also understand how to do the promotion between environments.
To prepare for this section, please review the following sections:
This section is included in the topic “Promotion Between Environments” of the VDP Server Administrator official course.
How to Monitor Denodo Platform Server
The goal of this section is to make you aware of the state of your Virtual DataPort server in real-time in order to be able to detect malfunctions as soon as possible, and take the appropriate action to solve it. In order to achieve this, you’ll need to have a good knowledge of Denodo applications.
How to prepare
This section covers the following areas:
- Monitoring: There are two different ways of monitoring the platform server:
- With a Java Management Extensions (JMX) Agent such as JavaTM VisualVM. For more information, see section: Monitoring with a Java Management Extensions (JMX) Agent.
- With the Denodo Monitor (application included in the Denodo Platform). For more information, see section Denodo Monitor.
We recommend that you monitor the denodo platform using both configuration. You can find more information about monitoring in these articles: Auditing User Access in Virtual DataPort, Denodo Load Testing with Apache JMeter, Denodo Monitor as a Linux Service, How to monitor the number of times a VDP server is restarted and How to see the status of the cache using JMX
- The Diagnostic and Monitoring Tool is a web tool that provides two main features:
- Monitoring: it displays real-time information of one or more Virtual DataPort servers.
- Diagnostic: it processes log files generated by Virtual DataPort servers and the Denodo Monitor to help diagnosing past problems.
- The Resource Manager allows you to classify sessions into groups based on the attributes of the session, and to allocate resources to those groups in a way that optimizes resources utilization for your application environment.
All these applications and concepts are included in the Denodo Platform Installation & Operation course, under the topics “Monitoring and Management”, “Administration Resource Manager” and “Diagnostic and Monitoring Tool”.
Issues Troubleshooting and Logs
This is an important section for administration, you should be able to understand the logs and how to resolve issues.
How to prepare
To be able to handle any potential issues that arise when using the Denodo Platform, an administrator should understand the following:
- Execution Trace: After executing a statement, you can request the execution trace to learn more.
- Denodo Platform Logs
- Configuring the Logging Engine
- LOGCONTROLLER — VQL Guide
- Error handling: The best way to prepare for this part of the exam is to practice with real issues and fix them.
All information related to troubleshooting is included in the topic “Virtual DataPort Error Analysis” of the VDP Server Administrator.
Configuring Resource Limits For Users
